A concrete driveway is one of the most used surfaces on your entire property. Every vehicle that comes and goes, every delivery truck, every guest who pulls up to your house starts and ends on that surface. When it is in good shape you barely think about it, which is exactly how it should be. When it is cracked, uneven, or deteriorating, it is one of the first things anyone notices about your home and one of the last things you want to deal with.
Lake City Concrete Services installs residential concrete driveways built to handle the demands of daily use while standing up to everything North Florida throws at them. The heat, the heavy summer rain, the UV exposure, and the occasional hard freeze all affect how concrete performs over time, and we account for all of it in how we mix, pour, and finish every driveway we install. Whether you are building new, replacing an aging slab that has run its course, or upgrading from an asphalt surface that has become more maintenance than it is worth, a properly installed concrete driveway is an investment that pays off in both function and curb appeal for decades to come.
Most homeowners put off driveway replacement longer than they should, and it is understandable. It feels like a significant undertaking and the cost can seem easier to avoid than to face. But concrete driveways do not improve on their own, and the longer a failing slab stays in place, the more damage it tends to cause and the more the eventual replacement ends up costing.
A surface that is scaling and pitting absorbs moisture much faster than intact concrete. That moisture works its way deeper into the slab, and when temperatures drop even slightly, it expands and accelerates the breakdown from the inside out. A driveway with spreading cracks puts stress on the sections around them, eventually pulling adjacent areas apart as the underlying soil shifts. Raised edges and sunken sections create trip hazards for anyone walking across the surface and can cause real damage to low-clearance vehicles over time.
The tipping point for most driveways is when repairs would need to cover a significant portion of the surface, or when the same areas keep cracking back after being patched. At that point, the slab has structurally run its course and replacement is both the more cost-effective and the longer-lasting solution. We are straightforward about where that line is when we assess your driveway, and we will never push you toward a replacement if a repair is genuinely the right call.
Every driveway we install follows the same process, and every step in that process exists for a reason. We start with site preparation, which is the part that determines how long your new driveway will actually last. If there is an existing slab, we demolish it, break it up, and haul it away completely. We then evaluate the condition of the soil beneath it. In Columbia County, sandy and clay-heavy soils are common, and both can settle unevenly over time if they are not properly compacted before a new slab goes down. If the base needs to be built up, graded, or compacted, we take care of that before any concrete is poured.
Once the base is solid and the forms are set, we confirm the slope of the pour to ensure proper drainage away from your home and garage. Getting the slope right at this stage is critical. A driveway that drains away from the structure protects your foundation and prevents pooling that accelerates surface wear. We then pour the concrete to the correct thickness for your specific use case, finish the surface to your chosen texture, and allow the slab to cure properly before we consider the job complete.
Before we pack up and leave, we walk you through the care instructions for the first few weeks. New concrete has specific requirements during the curing period, and following them correctly makes a real difference in how the surface holds up over its lifetime. We make sure you know exactly what to do and what to avoid before we hand the driveway back to you.

Driveway pricing varies from job to job because no two driveways are exactly the same. The most straightforward factor is size. Larger driveways require more material and more labor, and pricing scales accordingly. Thickness is another variable that matters more than most homeowners expect. A standard residential driveway is typically poured at four inches, which is adequate for regular passenger vehicles. Properties that regularly see heavier loads such as pickup trucks, trailers, or RVs benefit from a five or six inch pour, and that added thickness affects the overall cost.
Demolition and removal of the existing slab adds to the price if there is an old driveway to take out. The condition of the base beneath it can also affect the scope of work. A base that needs significant regrading, additional fill, or compaction work requires more time and material before the pour even begins. Finish type is another consideration. A standard broom finish is the most practical and cost-effective option for most driveways. Exposed aggregate or other decorative finishes are available at a higher price point for homeowners who want something with more visual interest.
We do not quote driveways over the phone because too many variables affect the final number. Every estimate we provide is based on an in-person assessment of your specific property, your existing conditions, and what the job actually requires. That way the number we give you is accurate and there are no surprises when the invoice comes.
For standard residential use with regular passenger vehicles, four inches is the typical minimum. If you regularly park heavier vehicles like trucks, RVs, or trailers on your driveway, we recommend going to five or six inches for added load capacity. We assess your specific situation during the estimate and recommend the right thickness for how you actually use your driveway.
In some cases, yes. If the existing slab is structurally sound with no significant cracking, shifting, or base issues, a resurfacing product can extend its life and improve its appearance. However, resurfacing is a temporary fix and is not appropriate for slabs that have structural problems, widespread cracking, or a compromised base. We will tell you honestly during the estimate whether your slab is a good candidate for resurfacing or whether replacement is the smarter investment.
Most residential driveway replacements are completed in one to two days, depending on size and site conditions. The demolition and removal of the old slab typically happens on day one, with the pour following once the base is prepared. Larger or more complex driveways may take an additional day. We give you a clear timeline before work begins so you can plan accordingly.
